Calling all Poets and Creative Writers

Award-winning poet Sonia Sanchez will be leading a master poetry workshop on Friday, April 13 from 6:30-8 PM. Ms. Sanchez will share important information on the craft of writing and insight on how to find the creative space to write. This workshop will focus on Haiku writing and will give writers a chance to participate in Ms. Sanchez’ international “Peace Is A Haiku Song” project – where writers from across the world will have a chance to submit their Haiku poems for an interactive public art for peace mural. Jacqueline Johnson will be hosting an eight-session workshop series on Book Making for Poets. . This workshop is great if you’re looking to complete a chapbook or publish your first poetry collection. Through exercises, readings and discussions, you’ll explore the process of compiling and writing a poetry manuscript. This will be a hands-on workshop with special attention paid to crafting manuscript beginnings and endings, process of manuscript review, organizing the poetry manuscript and various aspects of editing the poem. Keen attention will be paid to revision. Expect to explore current trends in publishing and self-publishing, including opportunities in digital publishing. There are 8 sessions, meeting every Tuesday and one Friday (5/22), between April 17th and May 29th. The registration fee is $200 and you can submit a writing sample to writeonclasses@gmail.com.
