Progressive Pupil’s first Program Director, Vedan Anthony-North, is transitioning into a new full-time position at the Vera Institute of Justice as the Center Coordinator for their Center on Sentencing and Corrections.
Vedan made extraordinary contributions to the growth of Progressive Pupil during the past two years. She played a critical role in the founding and editing of our blog as well as the establishment of our Social Media Educational Outreach program. With her generosity, patience and sharp insights, she was an empowering mentor to our interns.
We will sorely miss the exquisite intelligence, fastidiousness and exuberant dedication Vedan brought to her work for Progressive Pupil. However, we are proud that her time here—made possible by your support—enabled this recent Barnard alum to begin a long-term career advancing social justice. “Working at Progressive Pupil has not just helped me develop professionally,” Vedan affirmed. “My consciousness about racial inequality and other human rights issues has deepened so much.”
The Ghanaian adinkra symbol Mmere Dane represents how time changes, which is an inevitable and constructive part of life. Progressive Pupil welcomes our former Community Outreach intern Brittany Duck into the Program Director position. Brittany is pursuing her Master’s in International Affairs at The New School and plans a career as a scholar-activist who specializes in the politics of the African diaspora.
